Surgery to Correct Acid Reflux Disorder

It is caused by the backflow of digestive acid and enzymes to the esophagus due to a weak or dysfunctional valve known as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES).
Some people may manifest severe symptoms but have little to no injury in the esophageal tissues, conversely, there may be others that show only a few and mild symptoms but with dangerous internal injuries.
Some of the most common instances when surgical procedures are considered include:

- When the reflux has already caused serious damages to the esophagus.

- Even with the medications, or as soon as the intake of medicines is stopped the symptoms the symptoms still persist.
These tests include the 24 hour pH study, barium X-ray, endoscopy or manometry.

Laparoscopy

This procedure is commonly known to the women as the Band-aid or bellybutton surgery as this has long since been used as a gynecological technique.
This is performed through a laparoscope which is a miniature video tool that gives a very detailed look into the affected organs.
As its name suggests, this is performed through having the fundus plicated or having the upper part of the stomach wrapped around the bottom-most portion of the esophagus.
Because of the advancement in technology, this can be done without any large and painful incisions.
